theDogWorks/cats2 spawned from Urban Axis, inc., established in December of 1996 as a general store of sorts with home, garden, gift & gourmet items. I knew that I wanted to also include a small pet section with some high quality pet food since that was a particularly hard item to find on the Southern Coast of German Village and surrounding metro areas and I was well aware of the need since that was what I preferred to feed my own dog and I lived in the neighborhood as well.
The internet was still in it's infancy then and finding my way deep into the pet market wasn't as easy as it is today. Luckily, I must have been a detective in another life. ;D Virtually none of the holistic food lines I was looking for were in distribution in Ohio yet, but I finally tracked down a few good lines and eventually a new distributor opened nearby with the same nutritional philosophy, and the rest is history!
Oh wait! BACKTRACK... In 2001 a taxi cab drove through the front of my shop one evening so since most of the home and garden goods left up front took a direct hit, the way was paved to start anew as an urban community pet store that happened to sell beer & wine, too.

April 30, 2019-Last day of business at 195 Thurman
We lost our lease after 22 years in business. Yep... Kicked to the curb! Oh well. Probably time for this crusty retailer to take a break and re-group and figure out her next chapter. Once I recovered from the hell of closing down a physical business, I decided to that I would pursue some things that I had missed after 22 years of being a sole proprietor and working six days a week... like working at a greenhouse or horse farm or something gritty like that. Then I saw that Cashman's in Delaware was looking for help for the Quarter Horse Congress so I signed up! But that only lasted for 5 weeks or so and I was off to find something else temporarily or whatever... since by then I'm feeling like my nickname GypZ, which came about when I was a roving pet sitter by night. Then I landed at The Red Stable Souvenirs & Gifts for the holiday season and stayed until March 2020 until the Covid. So I was able to get unemployment (YAY! First time EVER) as I settled into my new conundrum.
So now what?
And then it hit me.
Oh man... I hope this flies!
Stay tuned.
